Desperate Housewives insulting remarks on Philippine Medical School

PinoyUnited.com would love to just post the good things about the Philippines, however, it is essential to promote awareness on some of the issues that is equally alarming and affect the Filipinos worldwide. After the Malu Fernandez controversy, the insult to Filipinos has now become global. Or is it really?

The Filipino blogophere has yet been rattled with mixed views on the recent Desperate Housewives episode remarks on being trained in a Philippine Medical School. Some Filipinos,including those in the medical field in the US, are annoyed over an episode of Desperate Housewives where Teri Hatcher’s character, Susan Mayer Delfino, sees her male Caucasian gynaecologist. MD: Well, everything seems normal. But, you say you’ve been having irregular periods?
Susan: Yeah, you know, one month off, two months on. That happens, right?
MD: Have you ever experienced night sweats? …. (few other lines here)
MD: How about hot flushes?
Susan: OK, whoa. I’m gonna stop you right there. I’m way too young for that, please refer to your chart.
MD: Susan, I know for a lot of women the word menopause has negative connotations. They hear aging, brittle bones, loss of sexual desire…
Susan: Before you go any further, can I check those diplomas? I would just like to make sure that they’re not from some med school in the Philippines…

Desperate housewives is aired and watched by millions of Americans and hundreds of millions of viewers worldwide. Do you think this type of derogatory remark is necessary?
