Yorkshire Bank Scam

I have received yet another spam email. This time its a “phisher” who is pretending to be from Yorkshire bank. Here’s the content of the email.

Dear Yorkshire Bank Customer,

Yorkshire Bank is maintaining physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with federal guidelines to guard your personal information against unauthorized access, we restricted some of our services for our clients, in order to be able to complete this process.

At this time we need you to renew your online profile and update our existing database, in order to be able to use all the Yorkshire Bank services with no restriction. As soon as our database will be updated we will make a few anouncements to our customers regarding this notification, so please renew your online profile with no delay.

Who are they trying to fool? I don’t even have an account with them.

  1. That is quite strange… not so many people have Yorkshire Bank accounts. They could have done it with a bigger bank.

  2. Actually blogo, the spammers are getting cleverer each day. I receive lots of spam each day and they are becoming more believable. Obviously I wouldn’t fall for any of it, but I just admire their handy work.

  3. @ Sidney - As far as I’m aware, it’s only based here in England.

  4. @ Joy - I know, they really are. Even the company’s email address is being used now. Best thing to do is type the actual website on your browser. Instead o clicking a link from an email.

  5. hay blogoloco — here in germany’s the same, they have the guts to use those small banks na talaga. actually i get a lot of those from paypal, from ebay, from nigeria, from suking tindahan… grabe!

  6. I’ve just received another one. This time for Royal Bank of Scotland. Grabe na nga talaga. For those unaware of it, they can easily just click that link. You need a good software to block those phishing website.

    Some scammers also send virus when you click on the link they have provided in their email.

    @ Mon - ouch. perhaps I am a spammer, but that’s absolutely the least of my intention. :)

    @rhodilee - exactly. we need a good antivirus/complete online security software toprotect us to most if not all online threats.
