Digital TV Switchover - UK

I don’t think that many people are aware when their region would go digital. As a result, a lot of them have embraced the digital mania by buying a brand new digital enabled TV set. This obviously has some financial impact as people aren’t informed that there may not be any need for them to dump their old TVs for now. Unless of course yours is broken. This could lead to unnecessary increase on environmental waste.

Analogue signals will be turned off in some regions later this year, though residents of London and Northern Ireland won’t have to switch to digital until 2012. The switchover will happen based on which ITV region you are in. See the map below to find out when will your area go digital.

Millions of TVs are most likely heading for a scrap as UK embrace the digital TV switchover. However, many people don’t realise that simply buying a Freeview box could enable their old TVs to work after all analogue TV signals have been switched off. Many people incorrectly think that TVs without a scart connection can’t be connected to Freeview boxes. Apparently, an RF (radio frequency) modulator could be used instead.

If it ain’t broke don’t dump it, Not only will you save some money, you can save mother earth as well.
