Limescale on Kettle

We use our kettle quite a lot for boiling water (what else would I use it for, duh). Especially this winter you really need to warm up quite a bit. British tea, anyone?

I remember someone suggested to filter the water before boiling as it helps reduce the build up of limescale but it makes the tea taste better as well. You still got to de-scale it at some point though.

Just notice that there had been a build up of limescale in our kettle (big deal), so it’s time to use a de-scaler. Unfortunately, there were none left as I reach for the cupboard. Scrubbing doesn’t do much good either. My wife de-scale it the ‘natural’ way. Guess what - using vinegar. I tell you, it did the trick.

You can always get the cheapest bottle of white vinegar you could buy in the supermarket, pour a cup or two into the kettle and turn it on. Leave it for ten minutes or so. Rinse it out and then boil twice using fresh water each time. This will help remove further limescale that had loosened up and will get rid of that vinegar smell as well.

Voila. You get a cleaner, limescale-free kettle without the worry of using other strong and potentially harmful chemicals and slightly cheaper too. I know it won’t make you rich but every penny helps, don’t you think?
