Gian Carlos on being a young father

Pinoy United

Gian Carlos is on the news about becoming a young father. Gian stated that he would like to be with his girlfriend Eda Nolan and their child hence a decision to live together has been made.

In the past, Philippines being a conservative country, it had always been a social stigma to live together without being married/without the blessing of the church. I do not have an actual statistics of people living with their partner. However, there is a feeling that the rate seems to be going up. Is the increase due to Filipinos being more open about this kind of relationship? It will be interesting to find out whether this becomes more socially acceptable in the Philippines overtime.

Will they eventually get married? You can hear his answer on this video:

Katrina Halili showed off her own lingerie line on V Day

Katrina Halili was absolutely happy when she showed off her own lingerie line on Valentines Day. It’s amazing how a lot of Filipino celebrities now venture into some sort of business. The type of business they venture in ranges from their own designer clothings, perfumery, restauratuer and IT among others. These type of celebrities got my votes as instead of  spending their money and wasting their career from all those drugs and “what have you” they invest it in something productive. Watch this related video.

Video from gmanews.

You don’t have to be a celebrity to have your own business. If you’ve got the skills and money, you can always try and launch your own lingerie business.

Five things you could do to save cash for that special holiday

I was known as a saver in our family since my childhood. But for some reason, my reputation had been that of a big spender for quite sometime. It was only a couple of years back when I started to regain more control on my finances.

Especially after the Valentines day, if you had been quite extravagant then you might be a bit strap for cash. Here are some ideas to kick start your savings plan:

1. Set up a direct debit (say £50 or more) from your switch card/current account to be put into your savings. You won’t miss the money since it never shows up in your spending account.

2.Use a piggy bank and place all those loose change in it. You don’t even have to buy one. Just clean an empty plastic jar (used).

3. Bring in your home made lunch at work. Be it a sandwich, pasta/rice meal or anything. It’s cool and a lot of Brits do that too. There’s nothing wrong with it.

4. Set aside half of any cash gifts or anything you didn’t have to earn (with this I didn’t mean stolen). It could be a lottery winnings (if you’re lucky enough). Deposit it into your savings account before you get a chance to spend it.

5. Can you DIY it (Do it yourself)? It could save you big money especially here in England. Make sure you do comply with the relevant laws as well as health and safety regulations. It would help to have one of those DIY book. Also, get some help from friends.

Saving money can be difficult sometimes especially if you have got into the spend, spend, spend habit every payday. You do need to have a good motivation. Think of that nice holiday back home in the Philippines or that lovely tour to the USA. The key thing is to get it started.

Sunshine Dizon graduates from culinary course

Sunshine Dizon wont date this Valentine’s day, instead she will just cook. Sunshine Dizon is just one of quite a few celebrities who took up a culinary course. This is good as a celebrity, it is important to focus on something productive instead of getting hooked on drugs or anything that can potentially be detrimental. It had been a dream of Sunshine Dizon to take up culinary arts.

A dream come true indeed, as Sunshine had just received her certificate after attending a 17-day special course at AICA - The Academy for International Culinary Arts. Watch this video to get a glimpse of Sunshine.

Have you been longing to take up a course on culinary arts? It’s never too late. You don’t have to be a celebrity to take one.

Roses remains top of the list among buyers of flowers

Roses remains top of the list among buyers of flowers this Valentine’s season. Is it because they symbolises love, easy to look after or does it lasts longer? Find out why on this video.

Video from gmanews.

For some {definitely not me :)} price can be the deciding factor. It would be wise to buy flowers that are locally grown for obvious reasons. No point of buying Tulips imported from the Netherlands  if your budget is just a £1 :(.

But with any other gifts it really doesn’t matter to me if that only costs £1.99. It’s the thought that counts, love. It’s common sense, however, to find out what the recipient would want. No point of giving her a bunch of roses if she prefers lilies. What? Did I just say lilies?

Flowers selling well despite higher prices for V Day

Despite the rocket high prices of flowersthis Valentine’s season, flowers are selling well in Dangwa the day before the Valentines Day. They expect that it will continue to sell well until tomorrow the V day. Watch the video.

I’m off to London to visit the Queen

I’m off to London today, but not exactly to visit the Queen. I have a 3 day workshop/conference to attend.

To limit the number of private vehicles in the capital, the government had introduced some traffic schemes, congestion charge, being one of them. Coupled with a limited/expensive parking fees, people are a lot more dependent on the use of public transport when they go to work. The “tube” is what we always use whenever we travel within Central London.

Here is a video on what some feels about the London Underground. It’s just over a minute. It’s worth watching.

Good fun to go for a day out or two. Or perhaps a whole week. But absolutely not for me to live and work, when you have 2 kids. I really am glad that I don’t live in London and therefore don’t have to endure all the delays and traffic jams each day.Nevertheless, despite all this I still love London. Have a lovely week.

Philippines needs to be better promoted as a holiday destination

Pinoy United

It’s great to know that the Tourism Department is continually promoting our country as a tourist destination for all of us. This was evident on the Philippine Tourism video they produced a year go. I’m probably guilty of not being able to see much of the Philippines, particularly, the southern regions. But, I do my best each time I go home.

I strongly feel that the Philippines is poorly promoted as a holiday destination here in the UK. All this time, when they plan to travel in the Orient it’s either Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia or Hongkong. The UK website promoting our country is not enough without any publicity. As a matter of fact, the website itself could do with a bit of re-design. Rarely will you see a Philippine Catalogue in Travel Agencies here in England. I do help in little ways by showcasing some Philippine websites and my travel photos to my colleagues. They are probably doing something about it but it surely is not good enough. I did read in one Philippine UK newspaper that they promoted it in one agency but so unheard of, I can’t even remember the name, sorry.

Attention Philippine Department of Tourism in London. Surely, most if not all of the Filipinos here would be glad to give their opinions/advise if you need assistance. At the time of publishing this, I’m still awaiting response from the email sent to them a few days back.

Philippines at its Best

This youtube video had been here quite a while ago. I still watch it every now and again. Support our country, support the Philippine Tourism.

Quite catchy, isn’t it? They should have produced a video something similar to above in English to promote our country to other nationalities as a holiday destination. This will generate far more revenues which they can use to help protect and further develop Philippines’ hot spots. But hang on. There’s actually one. Here it is. [Read more →]
