Shine Away

I always wanted a brand new top of the range car. However, for practical reasons, I decided to stick with a not so new car. Definitely not a premium car either but it definitely does it job very well. Take me from A to B.

Chill Out

We enjoyed our visit to our friends’ house. There was no special event as such, but, sometimes it’s just nice to chill out and have a little conversation. Whilst we’re having our cup of tea, the couple were so happy to mention, but not in an arrogant manner, that they bought a new fridge. Not just a fridge but a Smeg Fridge. Apparently, it was a lot more spacious and their fantastic new addition complements their kitchen. I was really pleased to hear that they sold their old fridge. At least, its still being used whilst its functioning, instead of being scrapped and dumped.

I love my cup of tea

I’m more of a tea drinker now instead of coffee. There had been a lot of articles that had been written about its health benefits. It also keeps me warm especially during British winter.

We went to one of our friends’ house and my wife saw their Tefal Quick Cup. It apparently heats up eight ounces of water in just a few seconds. My wife, who looked very fascinated about it, asked how it works. Our friend told us that it produces hot water by spinning the water you poured around the spiral heating element. They use it whenever they want an instant tea or coffee. I like the idea of being able to make a quick cup of tea. Also, it probably saves some electricity as it heats up the water very quickly.

But whether I use conventional method or the fast way to heat up my water, I love my cup of tea either with milk or lemon. That’s for sure. How do you have it?

Friendster Prankster

Friendster has invaded the majority of Asian population and that includes Filipinos worldwide. I’m a user myself. I recently received a message from one of the Friendster users telling me to forward the message about the fate of Friendster.com.

Friendster system is getting too crowded!! We need you to forward this to at least 20 people. I know this seems like a large number, but we need to find out who is really using their account. If you do not send this to at least 10 Friendster members, we will delete your account.

WARNING!

We want to find out which users are actually using their Friendster accounts. So if you are using your account, please pass this e-mail to every Friendster user that you can.

I knew, it’s just hoax. So, I didn’t even bother to pass on the message. This is not at all an attack on Friendster nor an attempt to lure Pinoys to become member of the newest Filipino Online Community, Pinoy United.

Friendster even confirmed the falseness of the said message:

If you have been forwarded a hoax chain letter from a non-existent Allen Smith in regard to Friendster becoming too crowded and deleting accounts, ignore it. This is a hoax that has been around for nearly two years. Please tell your friends to stop forwarding this hoax announcement.

Friendster is not closing. Friendster will make any announcements to members in the alert section of your home page.

Digital Photo Frame

Digital photography and cheap portable data storage had led to the “just take a snap here, there and everywhere” attitude. Who cares, there’s no film to be wasted and you can just delete those unwanted ones afterwards.

Pinoy United

This has led to the emergence of another niche in the market - Digital Photo Frame.

digital-frame.jpg

A digital photo frame is a picture frame that displays digital photos without the need to print them. You can just attach/record those photos on your spare memory card. Although not intended to completely replace traditional photo albums, it will help reduce those big piles of album you store at home. Some of which is most likely not being looked at anyway and hidden in the attic. This saves you money from printing them all out.

Pinoy United

With the Digital Photo Frame, It means no more bulky photo albums to view those snaps.

It comes in 6 to 10 inch frame - designed by a variety of electronics company.

It’s easy to use - you simply pop the memory card from your camera into the back and switch it on.

View every photo you take and short movie clip you take, with sound; independent to your PC

No need for any complicated instructions to operate

It can be powered using a battery or using the mains adaptor.

Affordable? It ranges from £35 to over £100’s

A couple of our friends were very pleased to have received it as our Christmas pressies to them.

Mona Lisa Painting - Photoshopped

Pinoy United

When we went on holiday in France, we spent the whole week to make the most of what it has to offer. Sadly, it wasn’t enough. We allocated a day to visit the most famous art museum in France, the Musee de Louvre in Palais Royal, Paris. However, I have mixed views on the glass pyamid right at the front of the museum. It maybe claimed that the Louvre Glass Pyramid is one of the great fusion of old and new. but I don’t quite buy the idea though. It doesn’t have the same “feel” during the day. It was a little disjointed. However, the courtyard was lovely and looked magnificent at night time when all the brilliant lights are on.

Louvre museum is huge and if you want to view all the artworks even a full day is not enough. It is a good idea to purchase a ticket before leaving UK/online or you risk waiting for ages in the queue. My wife was so keen in seeing the most viewed artwork of all, the Mona Lisa. The journey felt like never ending and by the time we reached the most valuable gallery of all, it was packed with people, all keen to get a glimpse of Mona Lisa.

Mona Lisa

On the hindsight, I wished I made a special arrangement to view it just for the two of us. It was a little too late. The day had been an unforgettable one. My wife enjoyed it dearly and it will surely be something memorable, filled of paintings and art works that is.

Thousands, perhaps millions, of Mona Lisa paintings (no doubt a photoshopped version, of course) are on sale not only in Palais Royal but in the whole of Paris.

Wired up no more with WiFi

WiFi is a useful way for computer to speak to each other without using any cables. This means you can surf the net anywhere in the house or in the garden without the hassles of messy cables. Cool isn’t it? Then Read further:

Make sure you get a wireless enabled laptop if you want to connect to your own WiFi network or want to surf the net wirelessly when out-and-about using Internet WiFi Hotspots.

How do I go wireless? It’s not rocket science. It’s really easy. Here’s how:

Digital TV Switchover - UK

I don’t think that many people are aware when their region would go digital. As a result, a lot of them have embraced the digital mania by buying a brand new digital enabled TV set. This obviously has some financial impact as people aren’t informed that there may not be any need for them to dump their old TVs for now. Unless of course yours is broken. This could lead to unnecessary increase on environmental waste.

Analogue signals will be turned off in some regions later this year, though residents of London and Northern Ireland won’t have to switch to digital until 2012. The switchover will happen based on which ITV region you are in. See the map below to find out when will your area go digital.

Millions of TVs are most likely heading for a scrap as UK embrace the digital TV switchover. However, many people don’t realise that simply buying a Freeview box could enable their old TVs to work after all analogue TV signals have been switched off. Many people incorrectly think that TVs without a scart connection can’t be connected to Freeview boxes. Apparently, an RF (radio frequency) modulator could be used instead.

If it ain’t broke don’t dump it, Not only will you save some money, you can save mother earth as well.

Are you lost? Not with a SatNav system

Satellite navigation has gone from being the expensive preserve of luxury cars to something you can buy in almost any car accessory store in a very short space of time. Now, Sat Nav systems cost little more than a good night out (at least in the UK anyway). SatNav systems function by working out their place on Earth using several different satellites at once. As each satellite is in a different position, this allows the device in your car to work out your location through triangulation. It’s also referred to as GPS (global positioning satellite).

With Satellite Navigation technology, getting from A to B has never been easier. Clear display tells you where you are and where to go, and with spoken directions you wont have to take your eyes off the road. Brilliant, isn’t it?

Here’s the feature At a glance:

No more maps and route planning

Automatically pinpoints your position.

Select a destination

Visual and voice directions will automatically guide you along the fastest route.

Free to use - no subscription required.

Easy to install and transfer between vehicles.
